Garry passed away just a short time after he was diagnosed with cancer. True to Garry's character, he used that time to not only focus on his treatment and the needs of his family, but also on how he could use his experience to help others and further research to find a cure for this disease. His solution was to form The Garry Betty Foundation.

The mission of The Garry Betty Foundation is to fund important areas of cancer research focused not only a treatment, but a cure for cancer. Garry believed in people and the power of technological innovation to make a positive impact on our society and the world. From his humble roots in Columbus, Georgia, through his engineering education at Georgia Tech, his rise to chief executive positions in leading technology companies and then in his battle with cancer, Garry was a consummate competitor who refused to quit and always found a way forward. The Garry Betty Foundation is a tribute to Garry’s life and the spirit he left behind in his family, friends and colleagues.
